Noia 2.0 (eXtreme) Updated for Firefox 3

Stoked! If you listened to the episode where I bitched and regreated about upgrading to Firefox 3.0 you will know that one of main gripes was that my theme of choice was not upgraded with it (Not that it was Mozilla’s fault). Now I am happy.

I checked today on a whim to see if the upgrade had been posted as there was a beta released a week or so ago (which I did not test). Woot! Noia 2.0 is now Firefox 3 compatible. Installed it on the laptop and the desktop at speed.

I have to say I am not a huge fan of chrome. It looks okay, but it is a bit “generic” and I was getting lost where to find things etc. Not that they moved, but I obviously search for things and look for them with visual clues. I have used Noia for ages, I guess it is what I am used to.

It’s a nice theme anyway and I like it. It also seems stable with the Firefox 3.0 upgrade that was pushed today. Which I think was mainly security related anyway.

One criticism though is that the bookmarks toolbar looks a little smaller. Be nice to have a bit more space between entries and between any additional toolbars you have installed. I am far from winging, but if I had to have an opinion that would be it.

Check out Noia (eXtreme), it is a top theme and very well done. Also available for Thunderbird.

  1. Nice one dave. :)

Personally, I’ve always been more in favour of compact/minimalist themes, and some of the buttons on this theme are on the chunky side. That said, it is very usable, so I’ll try it out for a few days and see if it grows on me.

  2. Yeah nice one dave!
Quite a nice theme, and it looks bitching on T-Bird. I was using some whacked out green one lol. So this one is far more conservative, and easier on the eyes.
    Cheers!

  3. @atmo yup I agree - I would not put this theme in the “minimal” category. But as far as themes go it is one of the more complete themes that I have seen.

What I do to minimalize this theme a bit (and do with any Firefox install) is remove the close button from the tabs, take away the “go” button next to the address bar and select to display small icons.

But that said I would not call it chunky, next to a true minimal theme sure. But that is a different class in my opinion.

@Methuselah a whacked out green one??? Well no wonder it is awesome.

If anyone wants info on performing those hacks let me know and I’ll post something about it.
