And you thought subwoofers were cool…

Some speakers are cool, cooler than others, then there are these babies…

While not actually in production and using a technology that was first coined in the late fifties, a few very nice advancements mean that they soon could become viable speakers for home consumers (or at least a few major rave parties) in the near future.

I hope that someday the technology reaches a point where it is actually SAFE as at the moment the plasma stream would basically cut and cauterize if you touched it, kind of like a funky sounding lightsaber.

“Plasma speakers have been around in science labs since the 1950s, but that doesn’t make them any less amazing in the 2000s. Like a standard speaker, plasma speakers work by creating compression waves in the air. But unlike a standard speaker that uses magnets and paper/plastic/etc to drive these compressions, plasma speakers are using the non-gas, non-liquid, non-solid “fourth state of matter” plasma.”

  1. Cool, I did not even know these existed. Thanks Tim!

Now… if I rig up this power point… and if… that car battery…

If the house burns down you’ll know why…
