Totality

Since I don’t watch the news I missed this, but since it is one of the coolest things to witness thought it was worth the mention.

Turns out that on the 1st of August there was a total solar eclipse. The countries that experienced totality were: Canada, Greenland, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China.

There were many other areas that experienced a partial eclipse including; North America, most of Europe and Asia. One aspect that made this eclipse different was the fact that it was visible from those places that are now experiencing perpetual daylight and because of this experienced what is known as a “Midnight Eclipse”. Try explaining that to a five year old!

I managed to dig up some great images that captured the eclipse as it happened, some of these images show people continuing on with their day like nothing was going on. I am not sure how you could miss it!

One thing I would love to experience in my lifetime is a total solar eclipse. Has anyone seen one? In addition this eclipse falls a week before the Summer Olympics in China; a good or bad omen?
