You Want It You Got It: The Aussie Geek Podcast Forum

Yes you guys have been bugging us long enough and we have caved, we created the AGP forum for you guys to inhabit. The forum is not hosted on our server, mainly because it involves a fair bit of work. We all have day jobs and we spend a lot of time producing the show and maintaining the blog here. So we have gone for a hosted solution.

We chose lefora as the platform. We were impressed with the service and thought that it would be great for the AGP. Not only were we impressed generally with the forum solution that lefora provides but the options available for both members and admins is a break away from the classic forum.

Lefora offers some great features that “fit” with what we are about here at the AGP. For example; you can post images and videos with forum posts, there are threaded replies, voting, polls and much more. Plus the fact that things like spam protection is built in makes for efficient use of our time. Did I mention free?

As usual this will evolve and we will tweak things and get them better than they are now. But we are excited about the new forum and want you guys to get into it as soon as possible!

One thing that we are expecting is that some of you will be moderators. The AGP is a podcast driven by it’s community and is very much a collaborative effort, so why not have you guys moderate the forum that you wanted; right? We will be around and posting there as well, but with the huge effort the show is we are expecting a bit of help here!

At this time I have thrown in a few categories but that is about it. I thought about adding a few posts but then figured that I want you to dictate the direction of the forum. So let us know if you want more or different categories. There are also no rules as yet, there is the moderator thing again. We want you guys to set the rules, when we appoint the moderators that can be something they sort out. A few preliminary unwritten rules:

  • Be nice to each other
  • If the forum takes away from the show it goes
  • If it becomes unused or no interest is shown, it goes
  • New people must be looked after like they are a part of our community

Well there it is, go check out the shiny new forum!. Your probably already there!

You’ll need to join the forum to post and reply.

One last thing; due to the late publishing of this weeks show and the fact that Keith is wrecked we are skipping this weeks show. I trust that this is a fair exchange.

  1. Huzzah for the AGP Forums! Now we need EVERYONE who listens to the show to get over there and start discussing stuff.

(But please stay away from discussions about KW’s choice of underwear.)

  2. Glad it is appreciated! You have a great point as well - we want to see lots and lots of listeners join up and contribute to the forums. Otherwise we will have to listen to Herne and Knightwise all the time!

Seriously though - community makes community - without members there is no community. Bigger the better!

  3. !
I can’t wait to see the forum being a wellspring of geeky activity. thanks AGP!

  4. good move guys. ok, signed up. posted a reply and a topic. now to let the Western hemisphere have their Sunday and see what turns up…

  5. Nice one! I write one comment about the forum and the next thing I know, the forum is up.

  6. @Raf see we do listen! Thanks for signing up and supporting the idea!

  7. Thank you.

  8. Hey Dave, best of luck with the forum, if you guys are interested in using a custom domain (for free), such as forum.aussiegeekpodcast.com, just send me an email at ‘vincent -at- lefora.com’

    - vincent from lefora

  9. Great news on the forum, be nice to each other…hmm does that goes for Hernia and Notwise ?

  10. @Vincent thanks for the wishes. We are excited about the Forum and what it will mean for our community. They were very keen to get one going and Lefora is turning out to be a very nice solution for us. Thank you for a very cool, easy to use, functional platform. Stress free.

@Hugh no you can pay out on them as much as you like, they can handle it.

  11. HE##!! The gremlins are at it again! Why, oh Why? does this happen to ME! I went to join the Forum. LeFora says I already belong - DOH!

Anyway,no matter WHAT I DO, I cannot “reply” to a post. I tried it on various browsers; various servers - NADIA! NO LUCK!

I CAN post on the LeFora forum. So, what is the diff?

  12. @Hugh : You call us that one more time and you’ll find yourself on the inside of your own toiletpaper-roll

  13. Brie, I have passed on your problem to the developers at Lefora.

  14. Great service at Lefora Brie: I just got this response from one of the developers:

“she may have to click the ‘join now’ link at the top right of your forum. Even though she’s a lefora member, she may still have to ‘join’ your forum.

if that’s not working, ask her to post to support.lefora.com and comment that she cannot post in your forum (and provide a link)”

Let us know how you get on. Thanks Vinnie from Lefora
