Your web alias your own?

Have you ever gone to a new website and thought, WOW THIS IS REALLY COOL!… Wait a god-damn minute, SOMEONE HAS ALREADY REGISTERED MY USERNAME!

Well fret no more, this website UsernameCheck.com will put your fears at rest as it allows you to type in your preferred username into the “check” field, and it will fly around the web confirming or denying your carefully chosen usernames.

So how will it help? Well if you are creating a new identity for your online presence or even registering a new domain name, this tool will help you secure the names on some of the most popular web services so you can get in first.

But what if you already have a cool username you like to use? I hear you all cry.

Well you can do three things:

  • Contact the user to see if you can secure it…
  • Create a newer BETTER username…
  • Man-up and get over it…

Now for you truly forgetful out there with a unique username moniker (I’m looking in your direction Cait… lol) then its a pretty darn simple way for you to check if you have actually registered an account with these services (god knows that I’ve forgotten three quarters of the websites I’ve registered on).

In any case, UsernameCheck.com sure is a handy tool to keep those username blues at bay.

  1. I have now snapped up the name Herne on a few more services! Muhahaha!

Strange how it said “Herne” is free on Friendfeed when I already have an account set up there under that name.

  2. What - Cait is “Cait”…

Someone stop the Herne before he takes over the world, he is starting to get out of control… Dr Evil… anyone…

  3. beautiful

  4. I tried it out and it told me that the user name on yahoo that I use was available.

  5. You guys are way ahead of the pack! Tech crunch just published something on this today, two weeks later (the sort of crap I was talking about in my comment on the guardian rss feed post!)
