Aussie Geek Podcast #009 :: Eye of Newt
It is time for a special! This week we interview Chris, one of the members of Lizards from Afar who’s music we have been featuring on the show for the past 2 weeks.
We don’t normally feature bands but this one is different, the way that they create, publish and market their music is unique and I think you’ll all appreciate the journey.
Chris also bought with him 2 tracks for us to play on the show, We liked them and I think you will too.
Please support the band and drop over to both their Blog and Music site and say hello, download some tracks and let them know what you think. Links are at in the show notes!
Please send us your feedback either via email or by leaving your comment right here. Or click the MyChingo link to leave us an audio comment that we can include in the show!

This was so much fun
Awesome! I’ll have something to listen to while cycling tomorrow. Ta.
Glad to oblige Skribe - nice to be wanted
It’s the only chance I get to listen to podcasts. AGP fits perfectly into my 90-120min rides =).
Wow! That was a really good show there guys! I really enjoyed that. You guys should think about doing some more interviews in the future.
I don’t have time to fully comment right now as I’m at work, but it was really entertaining.
@Dave What’s a Lizrad? And why is it on MySpace? And why are you stalking me?!
@Chopper Don’t feel bad, I’m older than you.
@Herne little is known about the Lizrad… it occupies MySpace for good reason. Until now no one has ever returned to document it’s existence. You can thanks us for finding out exactly what this thing is… Why you think we got it wrong? Then you go to MySpace, I made it in and out alive once and I am not taking that kind of chance twice. Sheish you think I am crazy.
After just an hour into this week’s show, I can honestly say that you are all terrible, mean people. My feelings shan’t be recovered.
Sir Pent (Elwyn Robert “Bob”)
drummer of Lizards From Afar
http://reverbnation.com/lizardsfromafar
@Sir Pent: You sound surprised. Have you not listened to the show before now? Sheesh.
@Herne: But I’m so cute and lovable that I assumed they would go easy on me.
@Dave You forgot to ask the illustrious Chopper if he or any of the other Lizards are on Twitter.
(Then we could mock…er…rib them there as well!)
Great show, guys. And the Lizards sound like young whipper-snappers to me =)
That was a really good show! To be totally honest I was a bit ambivalent about the idea of an extended interview with the Lizards (sorry guys!), but when I listened it was totally engrossing. Real life tech in action. Loved it, and I’ll certainly go and check them out on reverbnation, although I think I prefer their early stuff on the basis of the two songs in the podcast!
Haha, is your car european Cait??
To start a Prius:
Put foot on park brake (formerly known as the hand brake)
Push Start/Stop button located to the left of the steering wheel.
To turn on the electronics and not the engine, push the start button without your foot on the park brake! Do this again to get aircond to work.
Confusing, yes.
@Tom: I’m as surprised as you were! It turned out a whole lot better than I ever expected - my low expectations were of Chris rather than Dave, Cait or Keith, of course.
I am actually thinking that most listeners will be thinking the same way that Tom does/did.
Glad you liked it Tom. Confirmation that we made a great decision in featuring the Lizards!
Hi
I thought I’d hear The Herne sing again. Before I noticed I wouldn’t, the mp3 had already been downloaded so I gave it a go
Just wanted to say thanks for the show. It was different and quite entertaining.
Don’t worry, Raf, I’ll email you the special extended release of “I Want My AGP” …
Now Herne should do a remake of the Naughty By Nature rap hit “OPP”.
Ya Down With AGP
Yeah You Know Me
Ya Down With AGP
Yeah You Know Me
Ya Down With AGP
Yeah You Know Me
Who Down With AGP
All the Aussies
@Sir Pent: Not exactly my type of music, but I understand it’s popular with the “kids” these days… ;P
Now we need to think up an AGP gang sign to flash?
@Chopper Great job on the show, this one turned out really well. There was something else I was gonna say to you…um… um… um, UM.. uh… um… uhhhhhhhmmmmm… um, uh, um… iono.
We really should do interviews again.
great show all. Just a tip, AGP:009 H/W= bad mark. Don’t do it!! I tried it
Frank
@Frank sorry you lost me H/W?? Did I miss something? Think I must be having a blond moment
I’m not getting that one either…
@Frank You’re right. AGP:009 DG/TT => right on the money!
Arrrggghhhh.
It sounds like a code-geek thing… they all speak a foreign language.
Dave, you obviously haven’t been at school for a while
Decoding:
Aussie Geek Podcast Episode 9 combined with Home Work= Bad Mark
As for TT from Raf, is he doing Time Trials?
@ Travis Deane you got it!
@ Dave: you a blond moment, never!
Errr no have not done the whole school thing for quite some time. Looks like if I were to go back I would have trouble chatting to my friends. Thanks for the decode… That is the first time ever that the generation gap has bitten me… now I feel old…
Thank you SoC It might be “The SoC” yet… (That is you Frank - you officially have an AGP monkier… listen to the next show…) Don’t worry it is cool. If anyone can guess what Frank’s nick means you get a 4X CDRW… from Tim… LOL
@Travis No!
I had no idea what Frank wrote so I gave it a try myself. It almost made sense apparently, lol.
You guys behave in here OK , Don”t make met get Britney !
Who’s “met” and why does “met get Britney”?
Cuz Britney is easy…and wacko.
You have to excuse KW, he’s Belgian and sometimes forgets which language he’s typing.
If the greater good required it, I would sacrifice myself and still have sexual intercourse with Britney.
Just listened to the show last night and thought it was great. Was awesome to learn how a band that is geographically challenged was able to leverage technology and the Internet to the point where the final product sounded as if it was recorded with everyone under the same roof.
Enjoyed the unique sound you guys have as well.
I have to say though, the last question of the interview was hilarious! It came out of left field.
P.S. Welcome back Cait
Just listening to the show again… I’ve probably already missed the recording of AGP #010 for my comments, though.
Re the “basketball playing robot” Kieth mentions: This is from a Mitsubishi commercial here in Canada, possibly elsewhere as well. I assume this is the one he mentions, anyway.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNy2×6LZklQ
Re Second Life; Has it jumped the shark? You don’t hear a lot of people talking about Second Life anymore. (At least I don’t.)
Re Skype; I always hear people talkin about Skype, but I never see anyone I know on it. Is it just me?
Re Robots; Has anyone else ever seen this movie? I remember renting it when I was back in college. It was kinda campy, but I always thought it was such a great idea for a movie. Why don’t we see something more modern along these lines?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1N7MhFO7yw
Re Looney Tunes cartoons; I almost bought all of these DVDs, but I’ve been busy buying the Muppet Show DVDs instead.
Looney Tunes Golden Collection > http://is.gd/8Ium
Muppet Show > http://is.gd/8Ivq
And I’ve had several personal requests (OK, a COUPLE requests ;P) for more Herne songs on the AGP! So stay tuned.
Re HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photos; My Canon 20D will do this using something called “bracketing.” HDR is very big these days with the dSLR revolution. I would love to upgrade to the Canon 50D this Xmas, but unfortunately due to the economy, I simply can’t afford to spend the money on it right now.
[And now I'll probably be moderated because I've put too many links in my post.]
@Herne Indeed you were moderated. Links approved. And yes, that’s the robot I meant. (BTW, learn to spell my name will ya?!
)
@Keith Har! I’ll just refer to you as “The Great KD” … how’s that?
@Jeffro2pt0: Thanks for the kind words. AS you’ve probably figured out…I am the backbone and hardest working member of the band, so your comments make me feel good about the heroic effort that I am putting in.
@Herne: you so crazy
@Jeffro He’s also the most modest member of the band.
@Sir Pent Luuuuuuucy…you have some s’plainin’ to doooo!
I’m thinkin’ about starting a band…
I’ll call it, “Gizzards in a Jar.”
Whatcha think?
How about “Blizzards in a Bar”?
You could then be supported by Snow Patrol or the Avalanches.
Had to laugh at the ipod through the laundry. I had the same thing two weeks back, but found it wet after the wash.
Put it in a jar full of water crystals for a week, charged it, and all good.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Here’s a question for Keith…as he’s Canadian, right?
Why won’t Canadian podcasters give us a shot? I’ve submitted our stuff to a few dozen Canadian podcasters and mostly have never even received a response.
What’s up with Canadians?
