Glad that you could make it to the Aussie Geek Podcast episode 10. A very laid back show, it was a heap of fun and we had some issues with Gdocs… well, OK it was me that had the issues but I am still not convinced that Keith and Cait did not have something to do with it.

  1. Great show guys! A little less swearing please. Cheers, keep up the good work!

  2. Oh sure… Blame Herne.

Dave’s losin it! Scrolling docs and all.

  3. Keanu has nothin on this guy;

“Take the red pill, Neo! …And six of the yellow ones.”

  4. Out with the disclaimer again… we did not even swear that much…

    LOL Herne.

That scroll thing was driving me nuts!

  5. downloaded but haven’t had a chance to listen yet…
but without listening I can agree with Darren. Dave has a potty mouth.

  6. @Sir Pent Haven’t listened yet?! What’s wrong with you, man? As a true Aussie Geek you are expected to download and listen to the podcast IMMEDIATELY!

    Hang your head in shame.

  7. Well…I’m already hung, but I’m not ashamed.

  8. And you take pot shots at me Sir Pent…

  9. A long long time ago ..

When porn was still in magazines ..
and mice didn’t have balls ..

  10. Don’t make us call Chopper over here to censor you, man! Cuz we could do that!

  11. Wonder where everyone is this week… Christmas shopping?

  12. You have no idea how much fun I had scrolling up and down in that Document as Dave was trying to read it. Needless to say I did it using Herne’s Gmail account :) Rolf.

I think everybody is eating turkey this week.

  13. …and KW doesn’t subscribe to cannibalism.

It’s a strange thing in the US… they seem aghast when us Canadians say we’re taking a day off for Thanksgiving about a month before they think we should, and then when their Thanksgiving comes around, it’s a whole week deal or something!

I mean, c’mon, do you have to have one special day to give thanks for everything you have? Shouldn’t that be EVERY day?

  14. The hardware DRM thing just confuses me more the more I hear about it. So with a bit of googling I can find out how to download a 100% illegal version of a film which will work perfectly on all hardware, but if I try to do the right thing and buy a legal copy then I’ll be penalised for having non-compliant hardware and it will be difficult if not impossible to play my legally purchased film. How ridiculous.

I also don’t understand what exactly they’re trying to protect with hardware DRM. It’s as if they want to stop you plugging in a VHS recorder and grabbing the output from your nice new hi-def digital film… why would you want to do that? I know that iTunes only works with iPods and so in a way that’s hardware DRM, but this goes further - like limiting me to the type of headphones or speakers I can use just in case I plug in a mixing desk and record the output. How absurd.

Have I missed the point or what? Sounds like a recipe for bad publicity for Apple, even if it is the film companies that are driving it.

  15. Guys, excellent work as always … and Write Or Die is a brilliant little site! The more of those you find, the happier I’ll be - and we wouldn’t want me to be unhappy.

(because it’s hard, seeing a grown man aquiver with unshed tears).

  16. Another stellar podcast, with one exeption, drop “word from the wise”, its total shit, and keep up the swearing

  17. @Tom Totally agree mate and I alluded to it on the show. While I can appreciate Apple protecting the content that they host - which regardless of the rights and wrongs of that and my opinion I do appreciate they have the right and perhaps an obligation to do so. BUT: the whole hardware DRM issue is another thing altogether. You may have legitimately purchased something from iTunes and be totally incapable of watching/listening to it. That is in no way right. In some ways they do this now - no iPod or other device then you can’t listen to music or other purchased from iTunes. But I have purchased an Apple product knowing full well that is the case. This is another issue and taking things one step further and I do not agree at all with it.

@Hugh mate thanks for the feedback. I gotta say though that KW really has copped a bashing over the last month. I hear you, although I would hope for a more constructive way of saying it. Is there any way that we could make the segment better? Also what specifically don’t you like about it?

    Thanks for the feedback!

  18. Can you make KW any better looking too? :D

  19. @herne : I think i reached perfection already.
@hugh : Harsh! Watch out you don’t get in the way of my wrath .. or even worse , the wrath of my fans.

  20. Great show, congrats on show 100 err 10 whatever.

I think hugh may have lived next door to KW, and KW’s little doggie crapped on hugh’s lawn.

  21. great show all involved. Dave the scrolling wasn’t because of your glasses was it?

  22. Geez, is it just me or do new buttons keep appearing on the Lefora Forums when you’re least expecting it?

Now there’s a “Newest Posts Across All Categories” button.

  23. Well I’m a bit late putting up a comment here, but I’ll do it anyway.

Great show as always. It made my trip from Toowoomba to Brisbane much easier and enjoyable, however bursting out laughing randomly can cause a few looks.

I might also add that I have the cases and mobo, that we need to make those PC’s. I have a P100 complete, just missing a floppy drive and a case with a Socket A CPU (Athlon XP 3000+) with gfx, soundcard and 56k modem, but no PSU or ram or Optical drive.

  24. Not sure that I’ll get a response…but I recently purchased iPhones (16GB) for the little lady and myself. I was really on the fence because I was dying to try out the Blackberry Storm…plus it was on a better network than the iPhone. (Verizon performs so much better here in the US.)
In the end I couldn’t find a dealer that anticipated even having an available Storm until well into next year.
So we got iPhones…and love them. They have been great so far.

My question to the geeks…did I make the right choice? Should I have waited until the Storm was available?

  25. Of course you’ll get a response!!

Me - I think you did the right thing. Personally I have not used the blackberry. But I have used the iPhone and it is awesome. It does a great job at doing things that other phones do - but easier.

The 16gig is a bit of over kill unless your using it for media as well in which case - fine. But then the cost might be better there for the 16’s in the US…

Text messaging rocks on the iPhone and being able to surf the web and check email easily and simply is the bomb…

Listen to the next show to hear more talk about the iPhone :)
