Knightwise’s Video on His Geek Set-up

Yes Knightwsie can be serious every now and then. Today he has posted a great video to the AGP Forum and I thought it was worth putting here.

Knightwise is not an Apple fanboy, in fact he uses just about every OS that he can lay his hands on. Mainly though his regular list consists of is MacOS, Windows and Linux. But then he is faced with a problem, you have 3 operating systems, one laptop and a small desk. Knightwise has found his solution and it is pretty sweet.

What Knightwise has set up is:

  • 1 24″ iMac
  • 1 Macbook Pro
  • 1 VM with Ubuntu
  • 1 VM with Windows
  • 2 Mirai 19″ LCD’s mounted on Neoflex Arms
  • 2 External Harddrives in Icybox Enclosures
  • 1 Keyboard
  • 1 Mouse

KW uses some smart thinking, nice hardware and some inventive software to accomplish his geek space. Check out the video that explains how he does it and why.

  1. Ha! I saw this via his Knightcast TV feed!

But he didn’t give me the info on the monitor arms and HD enclosures. I will look them up now.

He also has his own podcast or something. (Now I need my own!)

Hrm… $79 US for those arms. I wonder if they sell in Canada? Does IcyBox distribute to Canada?

  2. Herne , Someday , when you learn how to work a computer , you might check your email and find out that I PERSONALLY EMAILED YOU ALL THE DETAILS ! :) ..

You have your own email address (after much prodding), you have your own blog (after even MORE prodding) you sing (unfortunately you did that all by yourself) and now you want a podcast ! Soon EVERYONE is gonna know who the herne is , and your blanket of obscurity is gone. The analogy of lifting a rock and finding a cockroach underneath comes to mind .. but i’m not sure why.

  3. Well, sure is a whole lot of Apple stuff in that setup but I don’t mind. The monitors and the arms attached to them are darn cool and that is a crafty geek setup you have KW. The only thing you’re missing is Vista displaying on every one of those screens!

By the way, I could of sworn I saw a naked picture of Jason Calacanis on your macbook!

  4. I’m taking over!

Besides, everyone already knows who The Herne is… He’s THE Herne!

(And you personally emailed me an email containing only a link which got flagged as spam. That’ll learn ya!)

Those monitor arms look pretty cool, unfortunately they’re over $100 here in Canada and they won’t hold the 24″ monitor which I had intended to buy…

    @Jeff Vista!? Bite your tongue!

  5. nice work KW

  6. Jeffro : If that green tinted wallpaper makes you think of a Naked Jason .. you are in need of some serious therapy.
But then again : thats not new.

  7. Knightwise doesn’t want Vista, it’s too good looking and will show him up ;)

  8. I’m too hot for vista :)

  9. Pretty sweet setup there. Is there a reason you chose to go with USB rather than firewire?

  10. Very cool KW your set up inspired me to set up my own geek set up. It is still running windows. I have two screens one a HP and a View sonic. I’m looking into hooking up my Linux box up as well. Hopefully it will be as cool as KW’s.

  11. I like the arms and the storage enclosures - very nice KW.

  12. I could have gone with Firewire too, but i’m a tad lazy and went for USB cause its all hooked up to 2 usb hubs under the table.

@Frank : Post some pics up on the forum.

@Dave: The arms are da bomb indeed , the enclosures are not that fantastic actually. Cause they are metal they cool really well , but the also resonate quite a bit when the drives are in them.
