Google has another new favicon… again?

Well it looks like Google are at it again, first their change of the classic favicon to the solitary G now this, personally I’m a little hesitant about the way it looks.

I know its supposed to match the colours present in the Chrome logo:

But its almost looking a little too much like this:

  1. The Google Chrome logo looks like the Windows logo in a spin-cycle. As for the new Google favicon I ask the question - why mess with a good thing? The reason you have a brand is to create recognition, this doesn’t work for me.

  2. @James - Totally agree, Chrome is a sub-brand of the Google machine, so why try further a link between the iconic Google branding and one of its products.

We all know that Chrome is made by Google, the colours of the Chrome logo reflect that of the Original (and best) logo.

If anything this distracts from an already solid branding.

  3. I think they’re admitting that they messed up last time with that lame blue italic “g” which replaced the well-known capital “G” with the coloured box around it.

Tech crunch has some other variations some of which I prefer to the new one:

I’m sure there’s a brand of eggs or bread or something that has that same green foreground and red sky with a curved horizon.

Anyway, it’ll probably grow on me. :)
