  1. Schweet a new podcast, can’t wait for iTunes to download it .. might have to download myself. Tomorrow is going to be an awesome day at work :) Nice work guys.

  2. My understanding of the U2 thing was that “officially” the availability of the tracks for streaming on myspace was positioned as sort of a “response” to the tracks having been leaked. That being said, I can’t really imagine that anyone in U2’s camp is that upset about the tracks being out there (publicity is good, right?), and the outraged and astonished reaction from the label is just another example of how that industry just doesn’t have any idea of how to deal with the way people get and listen to music, even at this late date. The old model of being able to enforce a real hard release date is not longer viable, and the record industry needs to accept that and move on.

  3. Extra long bloopers FTW!

“The guy…the guy in the wheelchair,” Dave mutters something about “bloody Canadians.”

    Who? Timmy? TIMMAH!

You know when you say, “Please someone send us an audio comment,” you’re just asking for me to do something…

blip.fm/herne … I’ve been there for a bit. Not really my thing but I do listen from time to time.

TinyChat: Pffft! I didn’t “freak out” … But I wasn’t able to see anything in the chat window that you had typed before I entered the room, so I couldn’t cut and paste anything. There used to be a service kicking around called “TinyText” or “TwitText” or something where you could type out more than 140 characters and then tweet an url to the text. I don’t remember what it was called.

BatteryBar: Too bad it doesn’t work for MacOS.

I think I’m going to end up switching completely over to Mac soon… Windows 7 doesn’t look promising with all the talk of DRM madness and locking users out of their own files. I might just save my money and buy that 24″ iMac I’ve been eyeing for so long. I have an iBook and a PowerBook G4 now, and I use a PowerMac G5 at work, wouldn’t be much of a stretch to go all Mac.

  4. Good show again. Sorry to hear that Cait has lost her voice - she always adds that extra insight and perspective to the topics being discussed. Get better soon Cait.

Dave, I knew exactly who you meant when you mentioned that bloke in the wheelchair.

Nice reference to Scorched Earth also. I remember years ago a neighbour playing it on a 386 PC, it took about 5 seconds for missiles to land and explode. I put it on my racy 486 PC and it was almost instantaneous.

  5. Where the frack is the M in Ubuntu.

Fantastically Dave fracks up another pronunciation by saying UmBunToo !!!

  6. @Knightwise: You’ve heard of silent letters? How about invisible ones?

    I think it’s all that girly beer he’s drinkin…

  7. I also forgot to mention that Podcamp Toronto was this weekend (Feb 21/22) and I forgot all about the bloody thing! Had I remembered the dates for it, I could’ve mentioned it to KD and we could’ve maybe met up for the day and taken a couple of seminars. It was also my niece’s birthday on the weekend, so I had already made plans to make an appearance over at my brother’s house to do some stuff and then have dinner. Ticked me off. All the interesting stuff happened on Saturday and I forgot! Bah.

  8. good show as always,
I have been looking for a handwriting to font tool for ages i want to use it as a code generator and that guy in the wheelchair it a very good physicist if only I could remember his name… can’t wait for ubuntu 9.10! but maybe I should update to 8.10 first but to do that i need a bigger HDD 15GB is not enough :(
    Frank

  9. ovi means door

think ovi as all online services… Store, Files, Image backup, maps, PIM/contacts/syncml, your travel log, workout tracking and more… See “all about symbian” for more background

  10. Herne - try Coconut Battery for the Mac. Awesomeness and sounds as if it does similar things. :)

  11. another great show, the triumvirate rocks!
i left a review on itunes a while back,my name is in the review-I think

  12. Loving the Battery Bar a time to fully recharge is surprising useful. Shit like that and “USB safely remove” should be standard on operating system.

  13. @Matt thanks, I’m all better now :)
