It must be a propensity for Canadians to ramble on, cuz KD is almost as bad as I am!
More points to me for on-air mentions! Go Herne! ;P First I had to start my own blog, soon I’ll need my own podcast…
Another excellent show boys, although I think we’re all missing Cait’s input here.
A nicely rounded pert show!
(Still working on alternatives to Ass… I’ll get back to you!)
Longevity of data storage is an interesting point. I have a box of 3.5″ floppies in my father’s loft with all sorts of highly important (at the time) docs from school. I don’t even have a floppy drive let alone a computer that could read the files any more. These days though I keep everything on my MacBook (which I back up frequently) but I don’t have separate data storage for old stuff. Longevity of the physical device or media doesn’t bother me - whenever I upgrade my computer I’ll shift everything over. However more concerning would be if applications are updated and no long open old files. Most of my old stuff though is photos, so hopefully there will always be an application that can open .jpg files whatever whiz bang swanky file format we’re using in 20 years time!
Excellent tips for iPhone photos. I knew about the press then let go to take a photo thing, but some of the others are good to know. It really pisses me off that people say how shit the iPhone camera is because it doesn’t have a lot of megapixels. It’s not the size that matters, but how it uses it. I’ve got loads of good photos from my iPhone that are much better than my old phone (which had more megapixels) could produce.
My favourite shortening service is is.gd. Not only is is short, as you say, you can add a hyphen to the end of the url and it opens a preview page, so you know what you’re going to. For example this goes to the AGP forums: http://is.gd/xSTZ-.
Right, back to thinking of names for this portion of the show that don’t make me snigger.
Thanks Dave and Keith for another top show.
Having just installed Windows 7 I was out to find some new programs and the AlternativeTo site was good. I’ve grabbed ImgBurn as an alternative to Nero.
Cait get your computer fixed soon (must be killing you) I’m missing the rants. Was Herne’s choice of music “Disconnected” a prophecy?
Actually I’ve changed my mind and do quite like Ass.
But anyway, here are some alternatives:
- ASAS… Apps, Sites and Services. Pronounced A-Sas.
- SASAA… Sites and Services and Apps. Pronounced Sas-ah!
- SSA.. Sites, Services and Apps.
- Stuff we like.
None of them particularly grab me…. I’ll keep working on it!
I still have a 3.5″ floppy drive in my current PC. My computer guy looked at me kinda funny when I spec’ed it though. I had used it several times in the year after I first got this box, but I don’t think I’ve used it since.
The magnetic integrity of floppies breaks down over time. Just the normal “background radiation” we encounter every day from TVs and microwaves are enough to degrade the disks over time until they become unreadable. I used to have about 300 3.5″ disks for my Amiga2000, but I destroyed them shortly before the last time I moved. Still have the Amiga, though!
Been a while since I’ve commented, but thats life sometimes I guess.
Loved the show as always. Although I do agree that a new acronym is in order. Now idea what would be a better one though. Once I’m though this insane part of the semester at uni, I’ll do up some swanky new bumper music if you’d like. 3 weeks of no sleep to go. At least the bus is interesting when you guys release an episode.
I’m fairly sure that I still have numerous floppies somewhere. Strangely though the are actually the reason why I still have a P100 box in the cupboard.
Ok well I’d better get back to my assignment and I look forward to the next show.
Oh and I may send some of my music through at some point for the end of podcast playlist sometime soon.
Nice to hear that I’m not the only kid to listen to the AGP. Love that some other kids are helping some other people that are not as good with computers as some of us. good show as all ways.
