We would also like to thank Herne for providing a great playlist for the past few months. Thanks Herne!! We would welcome anyone else to do the same if they would want to! We will be nicer than we are to Herne, but he knows that we love him! Plus he has my echidna…

Nice to hear the whole crew back together again!
Re Apple Tablet: I think it’s coming, but not in September. Apple is making deals to bring school textbooks to the iPhone and iPod Touch, see this story on MacRumours. It’s obvious that these devices are far too small to make viewing textbooks on them a viable option. This is just a lead up to bigger and better things. I think this just validates the rumour that the Apple Tablet will be based on the iPhone OS…
Also, Sony announced that they were dropping the price on their eReading devices, now starting at $199 USD. They also announced that they were opening up their eReader formats–Amazon hasn’t figured out that people will continue to refuse being locked into a DRM format. Sony is taking pre-orders for their new 6″ Touch eReader at $299 USD, and a 5″ pocket edition at $199 USD.
Amazon just doesn’t understand that 3G is NOT a selling point for their eReading device, it just bloats the price. Plus, Amazon shot themselves in the foot with the whole “1984″ debacle. They will probably never fully recover from that screw up.
Two problems still remains with these products, though;
First: The price of the device is still too high. They should start around $100 for the “pocket” edition and go up from there.
Second: People aren’t interested in buying ephemeral products. At least, I personally am not interested in buying books only as data. You can’t resell data. Offering a student an electronic textbook at 75% of the price of the print textbook is useless… you can’t resell the data! If I buy a print textbook, I can easily resell it and make back 50% of my cost. Publishers need to get into the habit of offering the electronic version WITH the print version.
3/4 the way through the show - top standard as usual.
In regards to FeedDemon I always duplicated my RSS feeds in both Google Reader as well as FeedDemon (news gator)- sort of backup.
That made it simple for me to update to the new FeedDemon application.
Special mention to Dave. You said that your pronunciation is getting better. Only minutes before you mentioned a major “faux pas” by Microsoft in regards to a release date - except you didn’t say faux pas you said “foo bar” - freudian slip I guess - keep em coming
Very good show and it’s nice to have all 3 hosts back again. With the “new” black box if it’s stored on the web is it not vulnerable to hackers and those sort of attacks?
